What is Z10 Odin?

Odin might be the god of war in Nordic mythology, but in the world of Ethernet testing, Z10 Odin is a key part of Xena’s Ethernet Traffic Generator solution.

Odin can test Ethernet devices at 6 speeds up to 10Gbps – 10/100/1000M and 2.5/5/10G.

The Xena Traffic Generator platform includes Z100 Loki (NRZ testing 10G to 100G), Z400 Thor (supports 50G PAM4,it/s PAM4 testing 50G to 400G), and Z800 Freya (currently PAM4 testing 50G to 800G) and in the future also 1.6 Terabits.

Speeds and technology

Z10 Odin generates Ethernet traffic using NRZ modulation which has been used for many years. NRZ stands for “non-return to zero” – a modulation technique for serial communications that uses two voltage levels to represent logic 0 and logic 1. Z10 Odin supports Ethernet testing of NRZ data rates of 10Mbps/100Mbps/1G/2.5G/5G and 10G.


There are multiple versions of Z10 Odin (see table below). All are available in both Xena’s fixed 1U Compact chassis, and Xena’s modular 4U B720/2400 chassis. Note that the Z10cc Odin is only available in the Compact chassis.


All Xena solutions includes user-friendly software to make it quick and easy to perform a multitude of relevant performance, QA, compliancy and functional testing: XenaManager, applications for automated RFC 2544, Y.1564, RFC 2889 and RFC 3918 testing,  Xena OpenAutomation and XenaTimeSynch.
