Time Synchronization

One-way testing of Ethernet networks using two separate testers at each end of a connection provides detailed information on the performance of each direction of the connection through the network. This makes it possible to identify an issue on the link related to only one of the directions. Furthermore, for throughput testing of asymmetrical links, one-way testing is essential to identify the information for the two directions. However, measurement of latency is a challenge in the case with one-way testing: You only get meaningful results if the time in the two testers is synchronized. This application note describes how the TimeSynch option provides time synchronization for Xena Networks XenaBay and XenaCompact test chassis.
